Shut the door, not that it lets in the cold but that it lets out the coziness.

I was invited to join Brenda and Becky for a sewing retreat in the North Georgia Mountains at Brenda’s “Cabin”. Well you don’t have to twist my arm to turn down any opportunity to spend time with these two lovely friends…and sewing is involved….I’M THERE!!! We packed up our sewing, food, comfy clothes, beverages…hmmm, and hit the road.

I’m thinking on the way up…cabin. Is it air conditioned? (this is Georgia, summertime, humid, and I’m at THAT stage of life get my drift?) Is there in door plumbing (well of course there is lets not spend anymore time thinking about that, silly me). How many people will be in my bed? (not problem I’m packin nite nite meds..gotta love Tylenol PM, remember THAT STAGE OF LIFE COMMENT ABOVE). No T.V. absolutely NO PROB for me. Ok I’m ready. Food, who cares…(well I’ll pack some Cheez Its just in case.)

WELL my friends. Cabin? I think not. It was a palace. It was a mountain HOME. We were WAY OUT IN THE BOOGER woods (my expression for deep in the woods) for sure. A piece of heaven. So beautiful, so quiet, when I turned my light out in my very own “princess” bedroom it was DARK. The best sleep, kinda like being a bear in a cave only the sheets are better.

We ate, we laughed, we told stories, we talked school, Brenda and Becky are both elementary Media Specialists and I’m a former kindergarten and first grade teacher. By the way Media specialist is fancy for LIBRARIAN. We sewed our brains out and talked non stop. I didn’t want to leave. Did I mention my princess bedroom and comfy sheets?

I took a picture of each one of us at our sewing stations. Guess which one is me?

Brenda fed the deer corn every afternoon and those deer showed up at dusk just like clock work. She is such a good mom! However, if I were a deer I would be a little bit careful as one of their ancestors is mounted inside the “Cabin”. hmmmm. Brenda and Joe have the cabin decorated all mountain style and cozy. Who knew there were Bear tooth brush holders and Bear clocks and Moose candle holders??? Apparently I need to get out into the wilderness more.

I worked on a ME project not a Silver Thimble project, well… I did use one of my designs but the quilt is for the foot of my bed. About two years ago I started a king size “Strawberry Pie” from the Moda line CHOCOLAT. The colors are the same as the colors in the rug of my bedroom so I wanted a quilt I could fold at the foot of my bed. I decided it this was the purrrfect time for me to finish this monster of a quilt. I just love those GIANORMUS QUILTS. I swear I hate the word king size. My memory of the quilt from two years ago is that I had all 168 of the blocks made. WOOPIE I was ready to go. NOPE!!!! got to the cabin, oops palace. I had to make 49 more 16 patch units. DANG. Oh well. I ended up getting the quilt finished in 3 sections so all I have to do is sew two large seams, make the backing and binding and it is complete. This quilt is stunning (if i do say so myself!). I rarely, (HECK almost never) make a quilt from one line of fabric. I like to scrap it up and mix it up more, kinda fits my personality better. However, this quilt makes my skirt FLY UP!

Did I mention I was locked up with two librarians? I’m a reader but these girls must have gone to speed reading classes, anyone remember Evelyn Woods? I came home with a reading list ten miles long. So, I gotta go update my reading cue from our library. I’m falling behind. I bet those two have already read a book and I haven’t even washed my travelin undies yet….hmmm. Maybe I don’t need 8 hours of sleep after all, I gotta catch up.

I hope you enjoy some of the photos.

Stay tuned because I’m planning another give-a-way. I love to do this??? I’m going to do it in honor of my 111 post. teehee..
