Good bye Christmas Hello January

The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a woman to hold her head high, to claim the future for herself. – Dietrich Bonhoefer
(I changed the references to gender, Pat)

My house is so naked! We took down Christmas today. Usually we do that on New Years day whilst watching parades, football and eating Chili. We both just decided to go ahead and GET ER DUN! BTW where is the wreath on the shutters on the right side window? I thought I put the wreath back up, apparently not! The Snow Village is still up but the rest is packed away and waiting to bring joy to 2013! Such a lovely Christmas dinner we had, and a romantic table scape. I do so love to entertain! For now it is all put away and we will have family and friends over again really soon I hope.

BTW, a side note to the above. Just before I was ready to serve dinner I was taking the beef tenderloin out of the oven, probably drooling at the same time. I had a hot pad in each hand so I could pull the roasting pan from the oven (450 degree oven!). The hot pad on my right hand grabed the handles of the pan and my hand slipped off the hot pad and forward grabbing the handle, without the projection of the pad. I swear I thought I would come unglued. I sat a table with my hand in ice. It hurt so bad. I decided the better course for me would be to quietly drink wine, but dang that tenerloin was good, Andy cut it up for me to eat but the wine is what my hand was calling for. hahaha just kinding..kinda! I now have hand blisters. not good. Nurse Mary Beth has been looking after her mom.

I have some sewing goals for January. These are the personal goals not the Silver Thimble goals. Judy Laquidara is suggesting that we list 4 per month and see how much we can get done. Ok!!! I’ll play that game I’m going to list 5 (being the overachiever that I tend to be, but stupid is more like it.)

Goal 1: Finish Mary Elizabeth quilt  for said Mary Elizabeth it is less than half way done. (I will splain this on on January 8th, you may have some interest in this quilt right now it is a bit of a secret)
Goal 2: Quilt for Steph and Chris  (I have no idea what I’m going to make them, I’ve got some rolling around in the sash and thinking to do!)
Goal 3: Finish quilt for baby Savannah (piece of cake! almost finished)
Goal 4: Quilt for baby Tyler  (another easy project)
Goal 5: Block 1 of Home Sweet Home (OH MY! I was a big talker in December now I much get the rear in gear!)

I may (emphasis on M.A.Y.) have a shot at these 4 goals I will be going to an annual quilt retreat with friends. Which means I’m not in charge so maybe I can really get some sewing time!!!  maybe, realize that my life could change on a dime and I might not get to go. There is the little matter of Silver Thimble World Headquarters we are so busy here I never know if I can get away. I could sure use the time to sew.

There is much to be done in the, secret can’t tell you category. One thing I do want to share. I’m going to make a floor cloth and do a tutorial on my blog about it. I will probably begin this in a week or so. I’ll get the dates for this event ready to share with you this week. Stay tuned because I think you will enjoy this project!! It is different and super fun.
