Rest, Relaxation, Reflection, Rejuvenation, Reading, RENEWAL!

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day (or by the fire in winter, PW) listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.

Sir John Lubbock

I checked out. Seriously checked out. No blogging, facebook, phone calls, social media, texting or anything else. I went on a deserted island in my house. I decided to do this during the holidays to just be “present” with family and friends and myself. It was terrific, it was fantastic I highly recommend CHECKING OUT!

So my blogging and facebook friends, if you have not heard from me please forgive me, and smile I enjoyed my checked out time very much. I’M BACK, with gusto! My goal is to make 2014 fabulous time for friendship, sewing and all kinds of fun stuff. I want to show you some of the holiday photos. Again, I kinda checked out here too. I was enjoying my family and friends so much I didn’t take the time to do much photo documentation. You are going to have to take my word for it. The past couple of weeks have been very special in so many ways.

My new favorite thing. I found this RED candleabra..holy buckets it was so fun this Christmas. If it is RED, IT IS GOOOOD right? My friend Sarah says that all the time.

There was plenty o’ baking going on this year. Cookies are best when shared. I did some secret sharing of the cookies this year. It was so much fun. Left them in places that no one would know I was there. kinda like Santa.

I cannot lie I love to set the table. I love to change things up. This year my girls wanted me to use the quilts on the table instead of the linen table cloths. Are you okay? Yes you heard me right, I said use quilts as table a cloth.

2013-12-25 13.06.34

I have said this before. Why not use quilts on the table? They wash well, if they get what it adds character, beside that I CAN MAKE ANOTHER ONE. I cannot replace the beautiful linen table cloths I have inherited from my Grandmother, Mother and Mother in Law. They are all priceless and not so user friendly if they get a spill. So,on with the quilts friends, set yourself FREE! Use those quilts. They are best when given away or used to make everyone smile. Who wouldn’t enjoy sitting at that table? When you come to my house I will set the table all pretty for YOU.

The ever patient Lucy my Grandog. Russ was carving the beef tenderloin.

2013-12-25 14.04.24

Lucy was hoping to get lucky. She pretty much stays very happy while at Grandy’s house. I have a co-ownership of this dog. I want another dog so bad but it doesn’t make sense right now with my travel schedule and such (or so I’ve been told by my keepers). I keep Lucy quite often when her parents are out and about. She makes me incredibly happy. I have never had a big dog around. I never “got it” … I do now! By the way, she got some tenderloin (there was never any doubt.)

It is time for the New Year to take hold. My time of R&R&R&R&R is over. I’m  over the moon with excitement about what I have in front of me for 2014. Yes there are deadlines, but it is all good because now I know I can escape for some of those R & R’s! if need be. I learned to give my self permission to stop and breathe.

A belated Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year! I would love a comment from you to get this year started on the right foot!

I love the quilt as tablecloth idea. Your table looks beautiful. I believe I will try and make one the right size for my long table before Christmas next year.
